Action description

The world of packaging is changing as a result of growing demands to minimize negative environmental impact. We can help our customers to act sustainably in order to supply suitable technology that can process new types of packaging systems. Less is more: this also applies to the development of groundbreaking packaging systems and solutions. We are consistently working to save on resources and use a higher percentage of recycled materials.

Flexibly prepared for the future with paper wrapping

For the first time at the beginning of 2020 KHS presented a machine that wraps beverage cans in paper. The Innopack Kisters TPP Advanced handles the secondary packaging of loose and pre-packaged cans on trays or pads in paper. It can be used in both the beverage and food industries and offers a clever alternative to the familiar tray plus film or wrap-around packs for transportation. By adding secondary paper packaging to your product portfolio you benefit from material and energy savings. With new functions, KHS can produce more packers with extensive options.
At the same time you reach out to new target groups at the point of sale with attractive product presentations.

Sustainable secondary packaging made of cardboard for beverage cans with our new system: The Carton Nature Packer (CNP).

The Innopack Kisters CNP bundles beverage cans to form multipacks or clip packs held together by a special can topper made of robust cardboard in an energy- and resource-efficient production process. In addition to using little material, this packaging system scores points for attractive product presentation and on one of the possible variants also provides additional marketing space on the pack top. Depending on the can geometry, size and type, the packer can process up to 108,000 cans per hour. This is a paper-based, recyclable packaging system that does not use any adhesive and saves on materials with a low-emission packaging process and the use of recycled packaging material. This new packaging system serves the purpose of brand strategy, differentiation and consumer involvement to create a better world through sustainable packaging.

Sustainable film packaging made of up to 100% recycled material

The use of film made from 100% recycled material is now possible on all KHS shrink packers. Make your packaging’s carbon footprint up to 65%* smaller by using film made of up to 100% recycled material. With no need for conversion, you can switch your production line over to sustainable film with very little effort indeed. By specifically mentioning secondary packaging made of rPE in your communication with customers, you demonstrate that your company acts with responsibility.

Nature MultiPack™ meets beverage industry requirements.

Sustainable, consumer friendly and gentle on resources: Nature MultiPack™ from KHS combines beverage containers with easy-to-remove dots of adhesive instead of shrink film to form stable packs, thus saving up to 90% in packaging materials. The ecofriendly packaging alternative is now also available for the high-performance range.

Originally developed by KHS for packs of PET bottles, the Innopack Nature MultiPack™ packaging machine was initially designed for a capacity range of up to 45,000 bottles per hour plus 20% overcapacity. It quickly became clear, however, that the sustainable concept of holding beverage containers together with dots of adhesive instead of shrink film, carton or plastic rings to form a pack that’s easy to transport and easy for consumers to ‘open’ was also of interest to the canning segment. In close cooperation with the Carlsberg Group and other customers, the system has now been successfully introduced in several European countries as packs of four, six and eight cans under the name of ‘snap pack’.

One important aspect for sales especially is that the innovative Nature MultiPack™ packaging concept touches on many areas of a beverage bottling plant: from purchasing through production to sales and marketing. “The big players have a strategic agenda that they generally pursue three goals with,” says von Aichinger. “First comes sustainability, this achieved by saving on energy and water consumption and reducing the carbon footprint; second is the desire for growth; and third is the need to generate as high a margin as possible. Nature MultiPack™ is a system that serves all of these three purposes.

As a reliable partner we provide sustainable and profitable added value to the global market, focusing on beverages and liquid food. We listen to our customers and deliver intelligent product systems with the highest project quality.
