Small to medium companies are best served by a simple, compact and reliable technology. In this case the client can opt for a granular sludge aerobic batch reactor or an aerobic membrane bioreactor (MBR).
The batch reactor approach offers the advantage that it is a very cost effective solution to the treatment of wastewater. The MBR approach offers the advantage of a superior effluent quality combined with a significantly smaller footprint but these advantages come at a slightly higher cost. In addition it is also possible to install an MBR filtration system afterwards to increase the capacity of a batch reactor thus allowing the wastewater treatment plant to grow with the production site.
An anaerobic system will remove a substantial part of the organic load from the wastewater in a very cost effective way (i.e. low energy consumption and sludge production) while providing the possibility of producing green energy via biogas. The increased complexity of the installation does however require a minimal organic load to render the anaerobic technology economically feasible. The integration of an anaerobic pre-treatment before the aerobic bioreactor is therefore only reserved for bigger production sites.
Companies of all sizes can however increase their sustainability by closing the water cycle through the implementation of water reuse in the production process. This requires the installation of a reverse osmosis (RO) filtration system which in combination with an UF or MBR filtration unit allows the production of water that meets the drinking water standard. By offering solutions with a high efficiency we can keep the operational costs for these installations as low as possible. read more
